Toppers Battle USSU, Late Goal Lifts Eagles

Blue Mountain, Miss.- Blue Mountain Christian University Women's Soccer battled United States Sports University for more than 82 scoreless minutes Thursday before a late goal lifted USSU to a 1-0 victory at The Summit.
The Toppers turned in a strong defensive performance against an unbeaten USSU side, led by goalkeeper Kiana Gordon's 10 saves.
USSU applied pressure throughout the opening half, recording 10 shots and putting six on goal. Gordon turned away all six attempts on frame as the BMCU defense kept the visitors off the scoreboard and sent the match into halftime tied at 0-0.
BMCU generated three shots in the opening 45 minutes, including two on goal.
The defensive battle continued after halftime. 
Gordon added four more saves in the second half as the Toppers kept USSU scoreless deep into the closing minutes.
The breakthrough finally came at the 82:22 mark when USSU's Ambria Snell scored off an assist from Ansley Warner, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage with less than eight minutes remaining.
BMCU was unable to find the equalizer before the final whistle as USSU escaped The Summit with the one-goal victory.
Nayelli Aguayo and Maria Eduarda Koespel led the BMCU attack with two shots apiece. Koespel placed both of her attempts on goal, while Aguayo recorded one shot on frame. 
Cassidy Remson added the Toppers' other shot.
USSU finished with a 21-5 advantage in total shots and an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. Despite facing 11 attempts on frame, Gordon surrendered just the late goal while finishing with 10 saves.
