Blue Mountain, Miss.- Blue Mountain Christian bounced back after dropping the opening set to defeat Faulkner University 3-1 Saturday.
The Volley Toppers earned the victory by scores of 22-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-23.
Faulkner took the opening set 25-22, but BMCU responded in the second.
The Toppers recorded 16 kills in the frame on their way to a 25-21 victory to even the match.
BMCU carried the momentum into the third set, putting together its best offensive performance of the match.
The Toppers tallied 18 kills while hitting .333 to take the set 25-21 and move ahead 2-1.
The fourth set remained close throughout, but Blue Mountain Christian finished off the Eagles with a 25-23 victory to secure the match in four sets.
Marissa Gerleman led a balanced BMCU attack with 15 kills while hitting .278.
Valeria Velez added 13 kills, while
Mattie Hopper finished with 12 kills on a .320 hitting percentage.
Elle Clayton provided an efficient performance with six kills on 13 attacks without an error, finishing with a team-best .462 hitting percentage.
The Toppers totaled 62 kills and hit .193 for the match, while holding Faulkner to 40 kills and a .127 hitting percentage.
BMCU received contributions from three setters, led by
Olivia Domino with 21 assists.
Sydney Tague added 16 assists, while
Brenyn Wilbanks recorded 14 as the Toppers finished with 60 assists as a team.
Defensively,
Abbi Williams anchored the back row with a match-high 25 digs.
Salice Speed added 20 digs, while Velez collected nine.
Olivia Lewis led the Toppers at the net with four blocks.
Blue Mountain Christian also finished with eight service aces and held a 76-62 advantage in digs.
The victory completed a strong two-day stretch at home for the Volley Toppers after sweeping Andrew College on Friday and defeating Faulkner in four sets Saturday.
The Volley Toppers will return to action next Friday night when they travel to New Orleans to take on Loyola University.
