Pineville, La.- Davi Vieira headed home a late equalizer as Blue Mountain Christian battled Louisiana Christian to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field.
Louisiana Christian opened the scoring in the 21st minute.
Following a corner kick, Matej Motycka capitalized on a loose ball inside the box to give the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage.
The Toppers generated seven shots in the opening half and placed four on goal but entered halftime trailing by one.
BMCU kept the pressure on after the break while its defense held Louisiana Christian scoreless throughout the second half.
The Toppers' persistence paid off in the 86th minute.
Davi Rainato sent a free kick into the box, where Vieira connected with a header at the 85:37 mark to bring BMCU level at 1-1.
The goal was Vieira's first of the season, while Rainato picked up the assist.
Neither side was able to find the deciding goal over the final minutes as the Toppers secured the road draw.
BMCU finished with a 13-11 advantage in total shots.
Santiago Estebanez and
Victor Silva led the Toppers with three attempts apiece, while Rainato and
Sammuel Davi Cavalcante each recorded two.
Luan Nascimento played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with six saves, allowing just one goal.
The Toppers also held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks while Louisiana Christian finished with a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
With the draw, Blue Mountain Christian moves to 3-1-3 on the season.
The Toppers will play against Central Baptist College on Tuesday at The Summit.
