Blue Mountain, Miss.- Blue Mountain Christian opened SSAC play with a straight-set victory over Andrew College Thursday, winning 25-18, 25-7, 25-19 inside Tyler Gymnasium.
BMCU came out firing in the opening set, putting together its most efficient offensive performance of the afternoon.
The Toppers recorded 18 kills while hitting .452 in the frame to take the opener, 25-18.
Blue Mountain carried the momentum into the second set and quickly took control.
The Toppers held Andrew to just two kills and a -.167 hitting percentage while cruising to a 25-7 victory and taking a 2-0 advantage in the match.
Andrew battled BMCU closer in the third, but the Toppers remained in control behind 15 kills and a .312 hitting percentage.
Blue Mountain closed out the sweep with a 25-19 victory.
The Toppers finished the match with 41 kills on a .341 hitting percentage while holding Andrew to 17 kills and a .000 hitting percentage.
BMCU also held advantages in aces (9-5), blocks (8-5), assists (38-14) and digs (44-26).
Valeria Velez and
Marissa Gerleman led the BMCU attack with 10 kills apiece, while
Salice Speed followed closely with nine.
Velez also made an impact from the service line with a match-high four aces.
Brenyn Wilbanks directed the offense with 18 assists, while
Sydney Tague added nine.
Abbi Williams and Speed each recorded nine digs to lead the Toppers defensively, with Velez adding seven.
At the net,
Olivia Lewis and
Mattie Hopper each contributed four blocks, while Gerleman added three.
The Volley Toppers return to action Saturday when they welcome the Faulkner Eagles for another SSAC matchup.
