Blue Mountain, Miss.- Blue Mountain Christian University women's soccer picked up its second Southern States Athletic Conference victory of the season Thursday, shutting out Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 3-0 at The Summit.
The Toppers (2-5, 2-1 SSAC) controlled much of the match offensively, outshooting ABAC 21-6 while putting 11 attempts on goal.
BMCU broke through in the 18th minute when Daniela Nieto found the top-right corner of the net off an assist from Duda Koespel, giving the Toppers a 1-0 advantage.
Blue Mountain Christian carried the one-goal lead into halftime after holding a 12-3 advantage in shots during the opening 45 minutes.
The Toppers added some breathing room in the 76th minute.
Nieto played a through ball to
Nayelli Aguayo, who slotted her attempt into the left side of the goal to double BMCU's advantage at 2-0.
Just four minutes later, Aguayo helped create another scoring opportunity. She found Alba Hernandez, whose shot went off the crossbar and into the net in the 80th minute to put the Toppers ahead 3-0.
Nieto led the BMCU attack with seven shots, including five on goal, despite playing just 20 minutes. She finished with a goal and an assist.
Aguayo recorded six shots with three on goal while also contributing a goal and an assist.
Hernandez added three shots and scored BMCU's third goal, while Koespel picked up an assist.
Defensively, the Toppers limited ABAC to just one shot on goal across the 90 minutes.
Kiana Gordon made the save in goal to secure the clean sheet, her first of the season.
BMCU finished with an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The victory improves the Toppers to 2-1 in SSAC play.
The Toppers will return to The Summit on Saturday to host Wesleyan College in the SSAC Women's Soccer Match of the Week.
