Blue Mountain, Miss.- Daniela Nieto delivered a second-half equalizer as Blue Mountain Christian battled Wesleyan College to a 1-1 draw Saturday at The Summit on Senior Day in the SSAC Women's Soccer Match of the Week.
Wesleyan struck first in the fourth minute when Caleigh Patton connected from approximately 35 yards out to give the Wolves an early 1-0 advantage.
The Toppers responded by applying pressure throughout the remainder of the opening half. BMCU outshot Wesleyan 17-5 over the first 45 minutes and put six attempts on goal but entered halftime trailing 1-0.
Blue Mountain Christian continued to search for the equalizer in the second half before breaking through in the 77th minute.
Nieto found the back of the net at the 76:07 mark to bring the match level at 1-1. It was the payoff to an active afternoon for Nieto, who led the Toppers with seven shots.
BMCU continued to push for the go-ahead goal over the closing minutes, but neither side was able to break the deadlock before the final whistle.
The Toppers controlled the overall shot count, finishing with a 28-16 advantage in attempts and a 9-7 edge in shots on goal.
Nayelli Aguayo recorded six shots with two on goal, while
Taylor Duggar placed both of her attempts on frame.
Sophie Young started in goal for BMCU and recorded one save before
Kiana Gordon entered just over three minutes into the match.
Gordon played the remaining 86:53 and finished with five saves.
Both sides earned six corner kicks in the match.
The Toppers will battle with the UT-Southern Firehawks next Saturday in Pulaski, Tennessee.
