Henderson, Tenn.- Blue Mountain Christian Men's Soccer battled Freed-Hardeman University for 90 minutes Tuesday evening, with neither side able to find a late winner as the Toppers and Lions finished in a 1-1 draw.
BMCU struck first in the opening half and carried the advantage deep into the second before Freed-Hardeman found the equalizer in the 79th minute.
The Lions created a pair of early opportunities, but BMCU goalkeeper
Luan Nascimento was there to deny both shots on goal and keep the match scoreless.
The Toppers broke through in the 22nd minute.
Murilo Andrade helped create the opportunity before finding
Yalin Alici, who put it away to give Blue Mountain Christian a 1-0 advantage.
Alici continued to put pressure on the Lions following the opening goal. He put two more headers on target during the first half, but Freed-Hardeman goalkeeper Gaspar Bourdon kept both out of the net.
Nascimento continued to hold strong on the other end, making another save in the final minute of the half to send the Toppers into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Freed-Hardeman came out of halftime looking for an answer and began applying pressure to the BMCU defense.
Nascimento made two saves during the opening 13 minutes of the second half as the Toppers maintained their one-goal advantage.
The Lions eventually found the equalizer in the 79th minute when David Hajduk scored to level the match at 1-1.
With just under 12 minutes remaining, both sides searched for the go-ahead goal.
BMCU generated a pair of opportunities from
Sammuel Davi Cavalcante, while Nascimento came up with another save in the 83rd minute to keep the Lions from taking their first lead of the night.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock over the closing minutes, sending BMCU home from Henderson with a 1-1 draw.
Nascimento played a key role in preserving the result for the Toppers, recording six saves in the match.
Alici supplied BMCU's lone goal, while Andrade picked up the assist.
