McKenzie, Tenn.- The Blue Mountain Christian baseball team earned a solid 5-4 road victory Tuesday over Bethel (Tenn.) in a nine-inning contest in McKenzie, Tennessee.
The Toppers got on the board early in the first inning when
Ross Polizzi drove in
Jake Meilstrup with an RBI single to give BMCU a 1-0 lead.
Bethel answered in the fourth to tie the game, but Blue Mountain Christian responded in the fifth inning.
Cody Presley delivered a key two-RBI single to score
Jacob Bryant and
Ethan Hirons and put the Toppers back in front 3-1.
The Wildcats fought back in the sixth inning with two runs to even the score at 3-3.
Blue Mountain Christian answered again in the seventh when
Gates Gerhart drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Bryant and restore the lead at 4-3.
The Toppers added an important insurance run in the eighth when Hirons scored his second run of the game to make it 5-3.
Bethel made things interesting in the ninth with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 5-4, but
Nolan Wood held firm on the mound to secure the save and the victory.
Blue Mountain Christian finished with 10 hits, led by
Ethan Hirons who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Presley drove in two runs, while Polizzi and Gerhart each added an RBI.
Jacob Bryant also contributed with a double.
On the mound,
Caden Moore started and tossed three scoreless innings.
Jabari Farr earned the win in relief, while Wood picked up the save with two innings of work to close the game.
