Toppers respond with doubleheader sweep to take SSAC series over Faulkner

Montgomery, Ala.- Topper baseball showed resilience over the weekend, bouncing back from a high-scoring loss in game one to take the final two games and secure the series over the Faulkner Eagles.
The Toppers dropped the opening game of the series in a 16-9 decision but responded in dominant fashion, sweeping Saturday's doubleheader with 11-5 and 11-4 victories.
In game two, Blue Mountain Christian used a seven-run second inning to take control early.
The Toppers strung together timely hitting throughout the frame, highlighted by a two-run double from Jake Meilstrup and a two-run home run from Cody Presley to build a commanding lead. Presley and Meilstrup each drove in three runs, while the offense continued to add on in the middle innings.
On the mound, Chris Matthews delivered a strong outing, throwing a complete game with seven innings pitched to earn the win and help secure the 11-5 victory.
The Toppers carried that momentum into game three, jumping out to an early lead and breaking the game open with a five-run fourth inning.
Yaidel Perez, Presley, and Jarrett Morris all contributed RBIs in the inning, while Presley added a sacrifice fly later in the game to continue his standout series.
At the plate, Ross Polizzi led the way with a 4-for-6 performance and an RBI, while Presley continued his hot stretch, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Perez added two RBIs, and Meilstrup scored twice as the Toppers totaled 11 runs for the second consecutive game.
On the mound in game three, Benji Webb turned in a strong performance, tossing 8.1 innings while allowing four runs on five hits to earn the win.
Christian Maness closed out the game, recording the final two outs to secure the victory.
Across the doubleheader sweep, the Toppers combined for 22 runs on 20 hits, showcasing both power and discipline at the plate while controlling the tempo of both games.
Blue Mountain Christian's response after the game one loss highlighted the team's ability to regroup and execute, securing a key series win over Faulkner.
