Toppers battle No. 14 Loyola but drop series finale

Blue Mountain, Miss.- Blue Mountain Christian concluded its SSAC baseball series against No. 14 Loyola Saturday, falling 6-3 in a competitive series finale. 
Loyola claimed the first two games of the series by scores of 15-4 and 19-10 before completing the three-game sweep.
Loyola took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Nathan McDonald and added another run in the second inning on an RBI single from Jed Cambre to make it 3-0.
The Toppers answered in the second inning when Garret Lance drove in Cody Presley with an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1. 
Blue Mountain Christian continued to close the gap in the third as Jacob Bryant doubled to right center to score Jake Meilstrup, making the score 3-2. 
The Toppers tied the game in the fourth inning when Reise Thomas singled to left field to bring home Jarrett Morris.
The game remained tied until the eighth inning when Loyola broke through. Cambre delivered a two-run triple to give the Wolf Pack a 5-3 advantage before an unearned run later in the inning pushed the lead to the final margin of 6-3.
Blue Mountain Christian finished with nine hits in the contest. 
Bryant led the Toppers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. 
Presley also collected two hits and scored a run, while Gavin Foley added two hits. 
Lance and Thomas each drove in a run, while Meilstrup, Presley, and Morris accounted for the Toppers' three runs.
On the mound, Benji Webb (4-3) worked 7.2 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits while striking out three and issuing six walks. 
Christian Maness provided relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout and no hits allowed.
