West Point, Ga.- The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers split an SSAC conference doubleheader Saturday against the Point Skyhawks, falling 6-3 in game one before responding with a strong 6-0 victory in game two.
In the opening game, the Toppers struck first in the first inning when
Mikaylah Fuqua reached base and later scored on an RBI double from
Aspen Teague to give Blue Mountain Christian an early 1-0 lead.
The Toppers added another run in the third inning as
Neely Barrier came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Teague to extend the advantage to 2-0.
Point answered in the bottom half of the inning with a big offensive frame to take the lead and added another run in the fourth.
Blue Mountain Christian continued to compete and added a run in the sixth inning when
Bre Ramsey drove in
Kelsey Camp with an RBI single to cut the deficit to three.
Ramsey led the Toppers with a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI and a double.
Teague added two RBIs, while
Anna Harrison and Barrier each recorded hits.
Fuqua helped create opportunities by drawing two walks and stealing two bases.
Gail Wisher started in the circle, while
Janna Shaw provided a strong relief outing, allowing just one run over 3.1 innings while striking out three.
The Toppers responded well in game two behind a strong all-around performance.
Blue Mountain Christian broke the game open in the fifth inning, beginning with a two-RBI triple from Teague that scored Fuqua and Harrison.
Kelsey Camp followed with an RBI double to score Teague, and the Toppers added two more runs later in the inning to build a 5-0 lead.
Blue Mountain Christian added another run in the sixth inning as Harrison scored to extend the lead to 6-0.
Teague led the Toppers offensively in game two, finishing with two hits and two RBIs. Camp added two RBIs, while Harrison scored twice.
Fuqua,
Karen Wisher,
Chloe Shelton, and Barrier each contributed hits in the win.
Bri Langley turned in an outstanding performance in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout while allowing just three hits and striking out six to earn the win.
Blue Mountain Christian will look to carry the momentum from game two as they continue SSAC play against Point.
