Thomasville, Ga.- The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers continued SSAC conference play Saturday with games one and two of a three-game series against the Thomas Night Hawks.
The Toppers showed competitive moments throughout the day but fell by scores of 9-2 and 5-2.
In game one, Thomas used an early push to take control, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding a solo home run in the second to build a 3-0 advantage.
Blue Mountain Christian responded in the third inning when
Cody Presley drove in
Jacob Bryant with an RBI single to trim the deficit to two runs.
After Thomas added another run in the bottom half of the inning, the Toppers answered again in the fifth.
Jarrett Morris reached base to set up
Yaidel Perez, who delivered an RBI single to bring home
Ross Polizzi and make the score 4-2.
Thomas added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the opener.
Perez led Blue Mountain Christian offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Presley added an RBI hit, while Bryant reached base four times with three walks and a hit by pitch. Garrett Lance and
Gavin Foley also recorded hits for the Toppers.
Caleb Hall made the start on the mound, working 4.2 innings with one strikeout, while
Ryan Murphy provided relief in the final 1.1 innings.
In game two, Thomas again used a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding another run in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead.
Blue Mountain Christian continued to compete and found offense late in the game.
Jake Meilstrup led the Toppers with a strong performance, going 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, and a run scored.
The Toppers broke through in the seventh inning when
Gates Gerhart delivered an RBI double to score
Jarrett Morris.
Blue Mountain Christian added another run in the eighth inning when Perez lifted a sacrifice fly to score Meilstrup.
Bryant and Morris also added hits for the Toppers, while Gerhart finished with a double and an RBI.
Chris Matthews started game two for Blue Mountain Christian, while
Jack Hearn turned in a solid relief appearance, tossing four scoreless innings with three strikeouts to keep the Toppers within reach late.
Blue Mountain Christian will look to bounce back as they conclude the SSAC series against Thomas in the series finale.
