Blue Mountain, Miss.- The Blue Mountain Christian University softball team earned an SSAC doubleheader sweep over Brewton-Parker on Saturday, taking Game 1 7-5 before
Aspen Teague delivered a walk-off RBI single in the seventh inning to give the Toppers a 4-3 comeback
victory in Game 2.
In Game 1, the Toppers used a big second inning to take control of the game.
After Brewton-Parker scored in the first inning, Blue Mountain answered with five runs in the second.
Vaye Savage drove in a run with a single before
Mikaylah Fuqua delivered the biggest hit of the game, a three-run triple to give the Toppers a 5-1 lead.
Brewton-Parker chipped away at the lead, scoring two runs in the third and adding two more in the sixth to make it a one-run game.
Blue Mountain added an insurance run in the fourth on an RBI single by Fuqua and another in the sixth on an RBI single from Teague to secure the win.
The Toppers finished with 11 hits in the opener. Fuqua led the offense going 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Neely Barrier added two hits and scored two runs, while
Gail Wisher also recorded two hits. Savage and Teague each drove in runs for Blue Mountain.
Janna Shaw earned the win in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings while allowing five runs, three earned.
Madison Montgomery closed the game with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to record the save.
In Game 2, the Toppers again showed their resilience. Blue Mountain struck first on a sacrifice fly from
Kelsey Camp in the first inning before Brewton-Parker responded with three runs to take a 3-1 lead.
The Toppers began their comeback in the fifth inning when
Neely Barrier drove in a run to cut the deficit to one.
Blue Mountain tied the game in the sixth when
Gail Wisher scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the seventh, Teague delivered the biggest hit of the day, lining a walk-off RBI single through the right side to score
Mikaylah Fuqua and complete the sweep.
Blue Mountain collected eight hits in Game 2.
Lakyn Nichols led the way with two hits while Teague and Barrier each drove in runs.
Anna Harrison, Fuqua, and
Bre Ramsey also recorded hits.
Bri Langley started in the circle, allowing three runs over four innings.
Montgomery earned the win in relief, throwing three strong innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three.
The sweep gives the Toppers momentum as they continue SSAC play in the coming weeks.
