Blue Mountain, Miss- The Blue Mountain Christian University softball team earned two important Southern States Athletic Conference wins Friday, sweeping Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 8-1 and 5-0 at the BMCU Sportsplex.
With the sweep, the Toppers improve to 2-2 in SSAC play.
The day was also highlighted by a milestone performance from Anna Harrison, who broke the BMCU single-season stolen base record with her 37th stolen base during the doubleheader.
Game One – BMCU 8, ABAC 1
The Toppers opened the series with an explosive offensive performance, collecting 14 hits on their way to an 8-1 victory.
Blue Mountain was led by Mikaylah Fuqua, who turned in a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI.
Aspen Teague also had a big day, finishing 3-for-3 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored.
Anna Harrison continued her strong season, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Gail Wisher added a hit and two RBI, while Bre Ramsey and Neely Barrier each drove in a run. Chloe Shelton and Lakyn Nichols also added hits in the balanced offensive effort.
The Toppers were aggressive on the bases, stealing eight bases in the game. Fuqua led the way with three stolen bases, while Harrison added two.
Teague, Karen Wisher, and Gail Wisher each added a stolen base.
In the circle, Madison Montgomery delivered a dominant complete-game performance to earn the win. Montgomery allowed just one run on three hits, striking out four without issuing a walk.
Game Two – BMCU 5, ABAC 0
Blue Mountain completed the sweep with another strong performance, again totaling 14 hits while shutting out ABAC 5-0.
Fuqua continued her strong day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Teague also finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Harrison added another multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, which helped her secure the program single-season stolen base record.
Kelsey Camp and Lakyn Nichols each had two hits, with Nichols adding an RBI.
Bre Ramsey contributed an RBI, while Vaye Savage provided a spark offensively with a 2-for-2 performance.
In the circle, Neely Cooper earned the win with a complete-game shutout.
Cooper allowed just seven hits, while allowing no runs and striking out two.
