Mobile, Ala.- The Toppers were on the road again for SSAC play against the University of Mobile Rams on Friday, falling in both games of the doubleheader. Mobile took game one 12-2 in a scheduled seven-inning contest before securing game two 12-6 in the nine-inning nightcap.
In game one, the Toppers struck first in the top of the third inning when
Ross Polizzi drove in
Gavin Foley with an RBI single to give Blue Mountain an early 1-0 lead.
Mobile answered in the bottom half of the inning with a five-run frame to take momentum and control of the game.
The Rams added four runs in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth to extend their lead.
Blue Mountain Christian finished with five hits in the contest.
Polizzi led the Toppers with an RBI hit, while
Gavin Foley,
Yaidel Perez,
Trace Roy, and
Cody Presley also recorded hits.
Jake Meilstrup added an RBI on a sacrifice fly for the Toppers' second run.
In game two, the Toppers showed more offensive consistency, scoring six runs on multiple hits throughout the lineup.
Blue Mountain Christian competed throughout the game, but Mobile used several multi-run innings to maintain separation on the scoreboard.
Offensively, several Toppers contributed at the plate with Presley, Perez, and Foley again helping lead the offensive effort.
The Toppers also saw RBIs from multiple contributors as they continued to battle throughout the nine-inning contest.
BMCU will look to respond tomorrow as they close the three-game SSAC series against the Rams. First pitch for the series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m.
