Athens, Tenn.- The Blue Mountain Christian baseball team wrapped up a road doubleheader on Friday with a split, earning a 9–6 victory in the opener before falling 12–2 in the second game. The Toppers showed depth and timely offense in game one, while the nightcap presented challenges against a strong Tennessee Wesleyan lineup.
In the opening contest, BMCU jumped out early and responded well after seeing its initial lead erased.
The Toppers plated three runs in the first inning and later regained control with key at-bats in the middle innings.
Blue Mountain Christian applied steady offensive pressure throughout the game, finishing with 15 hits and capitalizing on scoring opportunities late to secure the win.
Jake Meilstrup led the offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Jarret Morris also recorded three hits and drove in a run.
Hugh Parsons delivered a spark off the bench with a two-RBI pinch-hit single, and
Trace Roy added an RBI double.
BMCU tacked on insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings to close out the victory.
Game Two
The Toppers faced an early deficit as Tennessee Wesleyan built momentum at the plate and extended its lead with multiple-run innings.
Blue Mountain Christian broke through in the fourth inning when
Trace Roy drove in
Reise Thomas, and the Toppers added another run later in the game on a defensive miscue.
Thomas finished with a hit and a run scored, while Roy recorded an RBI as BMCU continued to compete throughout the lineup.
The Toppers will return home on Tuesday to host Rust.
