Tuscaloosa, Ala.- Blue Mountain Christian opened the 2026 softball season with a strong start on Friday, taking an 8–1 victory over Stillman College in the opening game of the doubleheader. The Toppers set the tone early, building momentum at the plate while backing it up with a steady performance in the circle to control the flow of the game from start to finish.
BMCU wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, producing an early offensive push that allowed the Toppers to play from ahead throughout the contest.
The lineup delivered consistently, finishing the game with 11 hits while capitalizing on scoring opportunities.
Maryn Macri paced the offense with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double and two RBIs, while
Aspen Teague added two hits of her own, including a double.
Mikaylah Fuqua reached base multiple times, drove in a run, and crossed the plate twice, and
Vaye Savage contributed a timely RBI to help extend the lead.
In the circle,
Madison Montgomery delivered a composed and efficient outing for BMCU. Montgomery went the distance, allowing just one run while scattering seven hits over seven innings. She struck out four and limited Stillman's opportunities, keeping the Tigers in check and giving the Toppers a dependable presence throughout the opener.
Game Two
The Toppers carried their momentum into the nightcap, earning a 6–1 win over Stillman College to complete the opening-day sweep. BMCU remained patient at the plate and continued to apply pressure as the game progressed, pulling away in the middle and late innings behind timely hitting and another solid pitching performance.
Maryn Macri once again led the offensive charge, delivering a standout performance at the plate with two triples and three RBIs.
Anna Harrison added a multi-hit game and scored twice, while
Karen Wisher contributed an RBI double and
Kelsey Camp drove in a run with a key single.
Aspen Teague continued her productive day at the plate with two more hits, helping the Toppers maintain steady offensive production throughout the contest.
Neely Cooper anchored the Toppers in the circle in game two, pitching a complete game while allowing just one run on five hits. Cooper recorded five strikeouts and worked confidently through the Stillman lineup, keeping the Tigers limited and preserving BMCU's advantage from start to finish.
With a balanced effort across both games, Blue Mountain Christian opened the season on a high note. The Toppers will look to build on Friday's success as they return to the field for another doubleheader against Stillman College tomorrow.
