ATHENS, Tenn. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian Baseball kicked off the 2026 season here Friday, dropping the opener to Georgetown (Ky.) 8-5.
The nine-inning affair saw Georgetown score three in the opening frame, with the Toppers firing back with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by
Ross Polizzi that scored
Jake Meilstrup.
The Tigers would get another in the second, with Blue Mountain cutting the lead to 4-2 in the third when
Reise Thomas doubled in Meilstrup.
The fourth saw the Tigers score again and Blue Mountain add one also on a fielder's choice to score
Ethan Hirons.
An RBI double by
Cody Presley in the fifth and a hit-by-pitch in the sixth to score
Hugh Parsons tied the game at 5-5.
In the ninth, the Tigers would get three unearned runs to take the victory over the Toppers.
Topper lefty
Benji Webb got the start on the bump, getting no decision by tossing four innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with nine Ks.
Jack Hearn was solid in relief, tossing four innings of two-hit ball with five Ks.
Ryan Murphy (0-1) suffered the loss, despite not allowing a hit or earned run.
Meilstrup, Polizzi and Thomas all had two hits apiece for Blue Mountain, with Thomas knocking in two.
GAME 2
The second game saw the Toppers fall to the fifth ranked team in the nation, Tennessee Wesleyan, 15-5 in eight innings.
The perennial-ranked Bulldogs would get four runs in the opening inning, with three coming unearned against BMCU starter
Caleb Hall.
The bottom of the second saw Wesleyan score two more, followed up by four more in the fourth, but the Toppers came roaring back.
In the third, BMCU's
Jack Hearn drilled a solo homer over the left field fence, and in the top of the fourth,
Cody Presley doubled to right and
Reise Thomas came around to score on the same play.
In the fifth,
Jake Meilstrup doubled in Hearn, and Thomas deposited a two-run homer to left, making it 10-5 TWU.
It was TWU the rest of the way, as the Bulldogs scored five more down the stretch to take the victory.
Hall (0-1) would suffer the loss for BMCU, throwing 1.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits with a K.
Thomas, Meilstrup, Polizzi and Hearn all had two hits each for the Toppers.
BMCU (0-2) stays put in Athens, as they will play both teams in the same order again Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. CT.
