Mount Vernon, Ga.- The Toppers battled hard on Tuesday night in a SSSAC road matchup, but ultimately came up short against the Brewton-Parker Christian Barons, falling 77–62.
From the opening tip, BMCU showed energy and competitive spirit as they traded early baskets and held a brief lead early in the first half.
Behind a quick start, the Toppers kept the game close with contributions across the roster. Despite a late push in the first half that kept the score within reach, BPCU carried the momentum into the locker room and extended it in the second half.
Junior forward
Gavin Shannon led the Toppers with a team-high 25 points, showcasing his scoring ability and leadership throughout the contest.
Jonathan Baker added 16 points and dished out 9 assists, orchestrating BMCU's offense and creating opportunities for his teammates.
Guard
Michael Hill chipped in 7 points and provided valuable minutes off the bench, while
Esrael Yant contributed 6 points and 7 rebounds in his time on the floor. Other contributors included
Chris Carter with 3 points and
RJ Robinson scoring 2 for the Toppers.
Though BMCU struggled to contain the Barons' attack, the Toppers showed flashes of promise, including a run late in the second half sparked by a three-pointer from Shannon that briefly energized the bench and crowd.
Turnovers allowed Brewton-Parker to expand the margin down the stretch.
Blue Mountain Christian will return home for a Thursday matchup versus the Life Running Eagles.
