Blue Mountain, Miss.- Blue Mountain Christian delivered a statement performance on Friday afternoon, rallying from an early deficit to defeat No. 2 GGC by a 6–5 final at the BMCU Sportsplex.
Facing one of the top programs in the nation, the Toppers showed composure, toughness, and timely execution to earn a hard-fought victory.
GGC jumped out to a four-run lead in the opening inning, putting Blue Mountain Christian in an early hole.
Rather than pressing, the Toppers settled in and began to chip away. Blue Mountain Christian answered in the second inning to get on the board and continued to apply pressure offensively as the game unfolded.
After GGC added a run in the third, the Toppers responded immediately with a multi-run inning, keeping the game within reach and shifting momentum back toward the home dugout.
The middle innings proved critical as Blue Mountain Christian continued to manufacture runs while limiting GGC's opportunities.
A solo home run in the fifth inning pulled the Toppers within one, and steady offensive execution allowed them to even the score in the sixth.
With the game tied late and the pressure mounting, Blue Mountain Christian pushed across the decisive run in the seventh inning, completing the comeback against the nation's second-ranked team.
On the mound, the Toppers received a stabilizing performance out of the bullpen following the opening frame.
Blue Mountain Christian pitching held GGC in check the rest of the way, allowing the offense time to methodically work back into the game.
Offensively, the Toppers were led by
Cody Presley, who turned in a standout performance with four hits, including multiple extra-base hits, while driving in a run.
Jake Meilstrup provided a spark at the top of the lineup with three hits, two runs scored, and a solo home run.
Ross Polizzi delivered a key two-RBI double, while Jarret Morris and
Garret Lance each added an RBI to round out a balanced offensive effort.
On the pitching side, Christian Manness earned the win with eight strong innings of relief, allowing just one run while striking out seven to anchor the comeback victory for Blue Mountain Christian.
