Blue Mountain, Miss.- The Toppers competed with resilience and determination in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon but fell 69–60 to Tennessee Southern at Tyler Gymnasium.
The Toppers opened the game with strong energy on both ends of the floor, trading baskets early and keeping the contest tight through the opening quarter.
BMCU continued to battle in the second quarter, staying within striking distance as both teams exchanged momentum, but Tennessee Southern was able to create separation late in the half. Coming out of the break, the Lady Toppers showed resolve on the defensive end and worked to close the gap, responding to Firehawk runs with timely baskets and defensive stops.
Despite the sustained effort and physical play inside, Tennessee Southern maintained its advantage in the fourth quarter and secured the road victory.
Blue Mountain was led offensively by
Maddie Kirk, who finished with a team-high 17 points, while
Rebecca Walter recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to anchor the Toppers in the paint.
Lena Taylor added 12 points, providing consistent scoring throughout the contest, and
Kathryn Echols contributed 11 points while helping facilitate the offense.
The Toppers displayed balanced scoring and competed through all four quarters against a conference opponent.
Blue Mountain Christian will continue Southern States Athletic Conference play, with its next game coming on the road at Life University.
