Blue Mountain, Miss.- The Blue Mountain Christian University men's basketball team showed tenacity and competitive spirit in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, ultimately dropping a 67–60 decision to Tennessee Southern in front of an engaged home crowd.
The Toppers jumped into the contest with energy, battling through an early Tennessee Southern advantage to stay within striking distance.
Tennessee Southern built a solid lead in the first half, but Blue Mountain responded with increased intensity in the second half, closing the gap and keeping the game within reach down the stretch.
The Toppers continued to attack on both ends, forcing turnovers and creating looks, but Tennessee Southern made key plays in the final minutes to secure the conference victory.
The Toppers' effort remained relentless until the final horn, as they fought to keep the momentum alive and challenged a tough SSAC foe throughout all forty minutes of play.
Blue Mountain was led by
Jonathan Baker, who paced the team with 11 points, and
Gavin Shannon, who added 10 points off the bench in a spirited scoring effort.
Jalen Boyd-Savage contributed 6 points, while
Michael Hill scored 7 points and hit a key 3-pointer in the second half to help sustain the Toppers' comeback push.
The Blue Mountain defense forced numerous turnovers and battled inside against a balanced Tennessee Southern attack but struggled to overcome a deficit built earlier in the game.
Blue Mountain Christian will hit the road next as the Toppers continue Southern States Athletic Conference play at Life University, looking to carry forward the grit and competitive resolve displayed in this hard-fought home contest.
