Blue Mountain, Miss.- The Toppers went head-to-head with the undefeated Freed-Hardeman Lions on Tuesday afternoon at Topper Pitch, finishing in a hard-fought draw.
The first half was a defensive grind, with goalkeeper
Luan Nascimento coming up big with two clutch saves late in the period to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Toppers turned up the pressure offensively, firing 11 shots—including five from standout forward
Karim Swedi. Several attempts came dangerously close, but the Lions' keeper stood firm to deny the breakthrough.
The 0-0 result showcased BMCU's grit on both ends of the pitch as they matched one of the SSAC's strongest opponents' stride for stride.
The Toppers return to action Thursday afternoon at Topper Pitch for their SSAC opener against Brewton-Parker Christian University.
