Volley Toppers split on day two of Milligan Mountain Madness

Milligan, Tenn.- BMCU Volleyball splits on day two of the Milligan Mountain Madness tournament, with a hard-fought loss to (RV) Oregon Tech.
 
Match 1
The Volley Toppers continued their hot streak at the Milligan Mountain Madness Tournament, earning a decisive victory over the Bears of Shawnee State.
Sophomore standout Salice Speed led the charge on day two with a team-high 12 kills, while Division II transfer Valeria Velez found her rhythm and added eight kills of her own.
The Toppers' offense stayed red-hot, racking up 37 kills across three sets to maintain their lethal attack from the outside. Setter Reanna Brown kept the offense moving with 16 assists, building on her strong weekend performance.
Defensively, Kora Wilson played inspired, anchoring the back row with 18 digs. Abbi Williams added nine digs in a solid defensive outing.
With the victory, the Volley Toppers showcased both their depth and momentum as they head deeper into the tournament.
 
Match 2
The Volley Toppers showed tremendous fight in their second match of the tournament, taking (RV) Oregon Tech to five sets in a back-and-forth battle.
BMCU's attack was firing on all cylinders, racking up 66 kills in the five-set contest. Four Toppers reached double figures, led by Speed with a statement performance of 17 kills. Rachel Stegall, who impressed on day one, followed closely with 13 kills.
The setting duo of Brown and Peyton Kidd fueled the offense with a combined 43 assists, with Brown dishing out 29. Defensively, the Toppers showed grit as well. Wilson anchored the back row with 29 digs, while Brown added 15 of her own. At the net, both Gerleman and Speed came up big with six blocks apiece.
The entire match was a showcase of determination and resilience from both sides, but the Toppers proved once again they are building early-season momentum with strong play on both ends of the court.
BMCU will look to carry that energy into Tuesday night's matchup at Central Baptist College.
