Softball plays to split with UT-Southern

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian and UT-Southern completed their four-game yearly SSAC series here Saturday with a doubleheader.
UT-Southern would take the opener 3-0 behind a shutout from Ella Singletary.
The Firehawks would get two runs in the opening frame, as Marie Bodily drove in both with a double to right center.
UTS would get another run in the fifth on an RBI single from Lauren Pettie to make it 3-0.
The Toppers would threaten with base runners but couldn't string together any runs, giving the game to UTS.
Madison Montgomery (8-10) had another strong outing despite the loss, throwing a complete game, allowing two earned runs on six hits with four Ks.
Mallory Jo Mitchell and Iris Farve would both have doubles in the loss for BMCU.
 
GAME 2
Blue Mountain rebounded in the nightcap, taking Game 2 by a score of 4-1 behind a complete game from Neely Cooper.
The Toppers struck first in the bottom of the second, as Shante Beaulieu belted an RBI double to left center to give her team the 1-0 lead.
Blue Mountain added another in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Maryn Macri to up the lead to 2-0.
The Toppers made it 3-0 in the fourth, as Mallory Jo Mitchell drove in a run with a groundout to short.
Neely Barrier would hit a sac-fly in the sixth for the Toppers to put them in front 4-1 and sealing the split.
Macri, Mitchell, Bre Ramsey and Iris Farve all had two hit apiece in the win for BMCU.
Cooper (5-8) picked up the complete-game win, with an unearned run on five hits with six Ks.
The Firehawks would get a run on a groundout in the sixth to make it 3-1.
BMCU (24-24, 10-16 SSAC) closes out the regular season and awaits seeding for next week's SSAC Championship Tournament in Decatur, Ala.
