Barrier homer helps BMCU to split with William Carey

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian hosted SSAC state foe (RV) William Carey here Thursday, with the Toppers taking Game 1 by a score of 2-1 in just an hour and six minutes.
Topper right fielder Neely Barrier was the hero in Game 1, as the freshman belted a two-run homer in the third and followed it up with a diving catch to end the game in the seventh.
Madison Montgomery (8-7) was money in the circle for the Toppers, tossing a complete game, allowing a run on eight hits with two Ks on just 94 pitches, 65 which were strikes.
Barrier would finish with two hits and two RBI, while Bre Ramsey had a hit in the win for Blue Mountain.
 
GAME 2
Game 2 would go to William Carey, as the Toppers would fall 3-2.
The Toppers drew first blood in the opening frame, as Maryn Macri roped a sac-fly to center to score Bre Ramsey.
Carey would answer with two runs in the fourth on a Topper error and an RBI single by Laila Clark to make it 2-1.
Blue Mountain would tie it in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Julianna Ingram that scored Kelsey Camp.
The Crusaders would break the tie in the top of the seventh, as Ryan Hornsby hit an RBI double to center, sending Carey away with a split on the day.
Ramsey led BMCU with two hits, while Madison Montgomery (8-8) would suffer the loss in relief of Neely Cooper.  Cooper tossed five solid innings, allowed one earned run on just three hits with a K.
BMCU (21-19, 9-13 SSAC) returns to SSAC action tomorrow, hosting (RV) Mobile at noon and 2 p.m. CT in Blue Mountain.
