MEMPHIS, Tenn. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian Softball was back in action here Friday, taking on NCAA DIII Rhodes College in a non-conference doubleheader.
Rhodes would take Game 1 from the Toppers to open the day, winning 4-2.
The Lynx would get a two-run homer in the first frame from Talia Travis to make it a quick 2-0 lead.
The Toppers answered in the top of the second, as
Maryn Macri would belt a solo homer to left center, her second of the season.
Blue Mountain tied it in the fourth when
Julianna Ingram roped a double to left center to score
Kelsey Camp.
Rhodes got an RBI single in the fourth by Hannah Schweiger and another in the bottom of the fifth by Savannah Russell, giving them enough for the victory.
Marci and Ingram led the Toppers with two hits apiece, while
Madison Montgomery suffered the loss in the circle, tossing a complete game, giving up four runs on seven hits.
GAME 2
The backend game saw the Toppers rebound and defeat the Lynx in a shutout 6-0 outing from
Neely Cooper.
Copper would shut down the Rhodes offense, allowing only five hits while fanning three for the Toppers.
Blue Mountain opened it up in the top of the second offensively, as
Maryn Macri scored on an errors,
Audrey Hillis singled in a run and
Skylar Lee capped it off with a three-run homer to left to put the Toppers up 5-0.
Kelsey Camp provided some insurance in the third with an RBI single to center to finish it off.
Lee led the way with two hits, three RBI and a run scored, while Hillis and Camp both had two hits, an RBI and a run scored each.
Macri,
Bre Ramsey and
Neely Barrier all had stolen bases in the win.
BMCU (10-10, 2-4 SSAC) returns Wednesday against Bethel (Tenn.) in a doubleheader slated for 3 and 5 p.m. CT.
