Tifton, Ga.- BMCU traveled to southwest Georgia for this weekend to play SSAC newcomer Abraham-Baldwin for a conference series.
Friday was the double header between the Toppers and the Stallions.
In game one,
Benji Webb got the start on the bump for BMCU. Webb came into the series with a 5-1 record on the year.
The Stallions were able to get 10 hits off Webb in his five innings of work.
With one swing of the bat,
Josiah Rivera, helped the Toppers grab the lead in the top of the sixth inning.
ABAC would respond in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring three runs off a single, walk, and sacrifice fly.
In the top of the seventh, Spence Wilson got things started with a base hit.
Jacob Bryant singled in the infield to get Wilson to third base.
Wilson ended up scoring on wild pitch to narrow the lead to one run for the Stallions.
With two outs and a runner on second base, the Toppers flew out to right field.
ABAC took game one, 4-3.
In game two, Kade Haywood pitched a complete game, going seven innings and only allowing six hits.
The Toppers lone run in game two came off a rbi single by
Hayden Redding to score Rivera.
Stallions put together three homeruns in the game off BMCU, to take game two swiftly.
For game three, ABAC got out to a quick lead through the first five innings, with a 6-1 lead.
Three home runs, two by Cristofer Walley, helped the Stallions take that early lead.
Bates was able to settle in the on the mound and go eight innings, giving up seven runs off twelve hits.
The bats of the Toppers came to life late in the game with a rbi single by Redding in the eighth inning.
In the top of ninth, the Toppers were down 7-2, until
Ross Polizzi hit a three-run jack over right field to give BMCU some juice.
Yet back-to-back strikeouts helped Abraham-Baldwin get the series sweep over the Toppers.
BMCU will travel to New Orleans next weekend for an SSAC matchup versus the Loyola Wolf Pack.
