Softball drops SSAC series to UT-Southern

PULASKI, Tenn – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian traveled to UT-Southern Friday for a two-game SSAC set.
The opener didn't go the Toppers way, as UT-Southern's Ella Singletary fired a one-hitter to lead her team to a 3-0 victory.
It was a pitching duel between Singletary and Blue Mountain's Madison Montgomery until the sixth, when the Firehawks got all three runs on an unearned score and a two-run single up the middle from Mikayla McCain.
Despite the loss, Montgomery (5-4) was solid in the circle for the Toppers, tossing another complete game, giving up two earned runs on just four hits.
Shante Beaulieu had the Toppers lone hit, a single in the top of the third.

GAME 2
The Toppers wouldn't be able to muster enough offense in the final game of the day, as the Firehawks took Game 2 by a score of 11-2.
UT-Southern would get five runs in the first inning and followed it up with another run in the second inning.
Blue Mountain would plate a run in the top of the second on a Julianna Ingram single down the left field line to score Maryn Macri.
Four more crossed for the Firehawks in the third.  The Toppers would get another run in the fourth with Bre Ramsey singling in Skylar Lee.
The Toppers couldn't get any more in the fifth, giving the Firehawks the mercy-rule win.
BMCU would get six hits in the contest.
Neely Cooper (3-4) would suffer the loss for BMCU in the circle, throwing two innings, giving up eight earned runs on 11 hits with a K.
BMCU (12-12, 2-6 SSAC) returns to SSAC action next Saturday, March 22 against Middle Georgia State in Blue Mountain at 12 and 2 p.m. CT.
