Softball splits with No. 20 Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – GAME 1 - Blue Mountain Christian Softball was back in SSAC action here Saturday against No. 20 Mobile, eventually getting an upset in Game 2.
It was a rough opener for the Toppers, as Mobile's Avery Harrell would toss a no-hitter, and the Rams would win 8-0 in five innings.
The Rams would score a pair of runs in the opening frame on consecutive singles to make it 2-0.
Mobile plated four more in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single, a fielder's choice and an RBI double by Bethany Dean to make it 6-0.
The Rams would finish it off in the bottom of the fifth, as Megan McCartney hit a two-run double to right center.
Madison Montgomery (5-2) would suffer the loss for the Toppers, tossing four innings, giving up just two earned runs on nine hits.
 
GAME 2
As they did Friday against William Carey, the Toppers wouldn't leave town without an upset victory, defeating Mobile 4-3 in Game 2.
The Toppers hit the board first in the third inning of the second game, as Iris Farve notched an RBI single to score Neely Barrier and Skylar Lee scored on a Mobile error to make it 2-0.
Blue Mountain got another run in the fourth when Julianna Ingram drilled an RBI double to left.
The Rams would answer with three runs combined in the fifth and sixth to tie it at 3-all, capped by a fielder's choice score and an RBI single from Carleigh Bowden.
The Toppers broke the tie in the top of the seventh when Kelsey Camp singled in Lee to give the Toppers the 4-3 victory.
Camp finished with two hits and an RBI for the Toppers in the win, while Neely Cooper (2-3) picked up the win in the circle for the Toppers, tossing a complete game, giving up three runs on nine hits with two Ks.
BMCU (9-9, 2-4 SSAC) returns to action Wednesday against LeMoyne-Owen in a doubleheader in Memphis, Tenn. at 2 and 4 p.m. CT.
