BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain met up with Lindsey-Wilson Friday in the first two games of their four-game series, dropping Game 1 by a score of 3-2.
The Topper bats were quiet in the opener, with
Chris Smith providing an early score with an RBI up the middle to score
Jacob Bryant in the first.
The Blue Raiders answered with a run of their own in the first, but Blue Mountain scored again in the third on a fielder's choice by
Will Crawford that scored Bryant again.
A pair of runs in consecutive innings by the Blue Raiders would be all that was needed to secure Game 1.
Bryant would lead the way for the Toppers, collecting three hits, while
Carson Gault chipped in two.
Drew Newman (0-1) suffered the loss on the bump for BMCU, tossing four innings, giving up three runs on six hits with three Ks.
Cameron Gordon came on in relief with a solid outing, striking out five batters in just three innings of work.
GAME 2
The nightcap was a different story, as the Topper bats awakened, leading to a 14-2 victory.
Chris Smith provided early fireworks, as he drilled a three-run homer over the left field wall to give the Toppers a 3-0 lead after the first.
The second inning saw six runs cross, as three consecutive doubles by
Jacob Bryant,
Josiah Rivera and
Carson Gault led to three runs.
Austin Garrison would also double in a run and
Spencer Wilson singled in a run in the inning.
BMCU provided more trouble in the third, with three free bases given by the Blue Raider staff that scored three, followed up by a catcher interference call and another walk to
Hayden Redding, giving the Toppers more than they needed to split the day.
Smith finished with three RBI and three runs scored, while Bryant scored three times and Gault twice, with both notching two hits.
SSAC Pitcher of the Week
Benji Webb (2-0) picked up his second victory of the season, tossing five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with a K.
The two teams will finish the four-game series tomorrow in Blue Mountain with Game 3 moved up to 11 a.m. CT due to chance of rain.
