Shock and awe! Lady Toppers to play for SSAC Championship

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 8 seed Blue Mountain Christian Women's Basketball pulled off another massive upset here Friday over No. 4 seed UT-Southern, winning 75-68 to advance to their first ever SSAC Championship.
The Lady Toppers came out smoking, as they put up 17 points in the first quarter as Crystin Guy scored five quick, with Maddie Kirk and McKenzie Williams both got baskets.
Guy would drain another triple at 7:27 and Charnita Brooks would add one also later in the quarter.
The second quarter was basically even, but Isabella Carlson and Kirk would hit big threes in the quarter.
The Toppers grabbed a bigger lead in the third, as Guy hit another three and Kirk got an easy layup to give BMCU a 40-26 lead.
UT-Southern drew closer with a few turnovers and scores, but Brooks would hit a big triple at 3:45 to keep the lead at 43-36.
Later in the quarter, Brooks turned up the heat on the Firehawks, draining threes and cutting up the defense as Blue Mountain jumped out to an even bigger lead 54-39.
The fourth saw the Firehawks try and draw closer, but the Lady Toppers consistently drained huge buckets down the stretch to take the win.
"I'm so proud of our team." BMCU head coach Tracy Rice said.  "The chemistry, teamwork and toughness are flowing from who these young ladies are as people.  I'm so happy to see their hard work and dedication is leading to a championship finals appearance in the SSAC."
Guy would finish with her third straight 22-point game in the victory, while Brooks had 20.
Kirk chipped in 14 points and Carlson had nine points and 13 rebounds for BMCU.
BMCU would nail 11 triples and hold the Firehawks to a meager three in the win.  BMCU absolutely dominated the boards, as they would outrebound the bigger Firehawk team 49-30.
BMCU will now play the winner of Friday's semifinal between No. 2 seed Loyola and No. 3 seed Mobile.  Tip for the final game will be at 4 p.m. CT at the Cramton Multiplex in Montgomery, Ala.
