BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian squared off against Bryan College (Tenn.) in a doubleheader here Monday for early week non-conference action.
The first game was a good one, as the Toppers would eventually get a walk-off double from
Iris Farve for the 3-2 victory.
The Toppers drew first blood in the third inning, as Farve drilled an RBI single up the middle to score
Skylar Lee.
The Lions answered in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs on a single from Juliana Santillanes to make it 2-1 Bryan.
In the sixth,
Maryn Macri drilled a pitch over the left field fence for a solo homer to tie it at 2-2.
In the final inning,
Mallory Jo Mitchell drew a walk and
Neely Barrier put down the sacrifice bunt to move her to second.
Farve would then belt a double off the right center field fence to score Mitchell and give the Toppers win.
Madison Montgomery (4-2) picked up the victory in the circle for BMCU, tossing a complete game, giving up an earned run on five hits with seven Ks.
Farve finished with three hits and two RBI, while
Bre Ramsey also had a pair of hits for the Toppers.
GAME 2
Game 2 would be a pitching duel, but the Toppers would come out on top 2-0 behind a shutout gem from starter
Neely Cooper.
The game was knotted at 0-0 until the bottom of the sixth when Blue Mountain's
Chloe Shelton belted a two-run double to right center to score
Maryn Macri and
Mallory Jo Mitchell to make it 2-0.
That would be all Cooper would need, as she quieted the Lion bats, grabbing the win. Cooper tossed a complete game, giving up just five hits and fanning one in the shutout.
