Toppers Cruise Past Skyhawks to Win SSAC Series

West Point, Ga.- The Toppers took the SSAC series versus Point University on Friday afternoon behind stout pitching performances.
Former SSAC player of the week, Benji Webb, started on the mound in the opener of the series. He went five innings, with four earned runs and four strikeouts.
Chris Smith had a solid day at the plate, going 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs.
Austin Garrison and Josiah Rivera both homered in the game as well.
In the sixth inning, the Skyhawks made it a two-run ball game with the Toppers still leading seven to five.
Jack Hearn came in relief in the sixth inning and looked dominant. He closed the game out for the Toppers in the final two innings to give the Toppers the victory.
Cameron Gordon got the start in game two of the series and threw a complete game, looking sharp. He gave up just three runs and seven hits while striking out nine batters.
The Toppers made some noise in the second inning by scoring four runs.
The Skyhawks responded with two runs by the end of the fifth to make it a one run lead for the Toppers.
Will Crawford decided to make some magic of his own by stealing home in the sixth. Smith scored in the sixth inning as well off a base hit by Jacob Bryant.
The Skyhawks did not have an answer to Gordon on the mound, and the Toppers ended up taking game two and the series against the Point Skyhawks.
BMCU will look to sweep the Skyhawks tomorrow in West Point at noon CT.
