Millington, Tenn.- The Toppers traveled to Millington, Tennessee before the storms could hit this week and came away victorious in their doubleheader versus Rust.
In the bottom of the sixth inning of game one, the Toppers found themselves in a tightly contested ball game, with the scored tied at four to four.
Will Crawford came up to the plate and untied the game with a triple down the right field line that scored
Hayden Redding.
Crawford would then score on an error by Rust to take a two-run lead heading into the top of the seventh.
Rust responded and recaptured the lead with a triple and a couple of base hits of their own.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Bearcats had the lead but not long enough.
Yadiel Perez started the bottom of the seventh with a double and Ty Roberson brought him in with a single hit to first base.
Chris Smith came up to bat with Ty Roberson in scoring position, and he came up clutch. He smoked a ball down the third base line to score Roberson and walk it off.
Jackson Cook earned the win and the save for BMCU.
In game two,
Jabari Farr started the game for the Toppers and pitched four innings with two earned runs given up.
BMCU had a big third inning where they scored six runs to break a one-to-one tie game.
The Toppers would then add five more insurance runs to win the game twelve to two.
Farr got his first win on the season.
Jesse Hancock and
Michael Lorenz pitched in relief. They threw three combined shutout innings.
BMCU will travel this Thursday to play Point University. They will play their conference foe in West Point, Georgia at 1:00 pm.
