Paragould, Ark.- The Williams Baptist Eagles were able to sweep the lady Toppers in a two-game series on Friday afternoon.
Madison Montgomery got the start pitching for BMCU in game one. She went four innings allowing four runs, with three of those being earned.
MJ Mitchell broke the zero-to-zero tie in game one with a two RBI double to score
Skylar Lee and
Kelsey Camp.
BMCU held a two to one lead until the bottom of the fifth inning, where the eagles scored three runs across the plate to take the lead four to two.
Janna Shaw came in relief of Montgomery in the circle. She pitched two solid innings, giving up just one hit.
The Eagles took game one in the series as the lady Toppers could not counter offensively late in the game.
In Game two,
Abby Keller, got the start pitching. She went two and two-thirds innings giving up four runs but only two of those runs were earned.
The Eagles scored six runs through the first four innings of the ball game, but the lady Toppers answered back.
In the top of the fifth inning, BMCU strung together five runs.
Audrey Hillis blasted a two-run shot that scored
Julianna Ingram as well.
Iris Farve grabbed an RBI off a single that scored
Courtney Richardson.
Camp hit an RBI double to score Farve.
Maryn Macri reached on error that scored Camp.
With the lady Toppers down one run in the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles retaliated with an RBI double to widen the lead to two runs.
In the top of the sixth, Ingram sent one flying over the fence to make the score six to seven, with the Eagles leading.
Williams Baptist answered yet again to claim a three-run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Eagles prevailed to take game two and win the series.
BMCU Softball will be playing at home next Saturday to start SSAC conference play versus the Faulkner Eagles at 2:00 pm.
