Blue Mountain, Miss.- The long awaited 2025 softball season has finally arrived, and the lady Toppers shined on opening day.
Abby Keller, a freshman, got the opening day start in the circle for game one of the doubleheader for BMCU.
Keller had impressive game as she went seven innings while only allowing one run to cross the plate.
Neely Barrier and Iris Favre grabbed RBIs in the bottom of the first inning to give the lady Toppers an early two-run lead.
MJ Mitchell was able to pick up an RBI as well in the second inning to widen the lead to three runs.
Audrey Hillis hit an RBI single in the fourth, and Barrier corralled two RBIs on her single to help give BMCU three extra insurance runs behind Keller's stellar pitching performance.
After the fourth inning, Keller closed out the game for lady Toppers to cement BMCU's first win on the season.
In game two, the sophomore,
Madison Montgomery, got her first start of the 2025 season pitching for the lady Toppers.
After a three-run inning by the Majors in the first inning, Montgomery went six scoreless innings.
It seemed as if the bats went silent for BMCU for most of the game.
That was until they came up clutch in the bottom of the sixth. They went on a hit parade to take the lead with four runs scored
Maryn Macri, the DP, lit the candle for the lady Toppers with a single to left field.
Favre drove her in with an RBI single to right field.
Kelsey Camp drove Favre in with an RBI double. She later stole home to tie the game at three to three.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth,
Shante Beaulieu played hero with a single to right field to score
Bre Ramsey and give the lady Toppers the lead going to the seventh inning.
Montgomery would then put Millsaps chances of a comeback to rest, and BMCU starts the new season with a sweep.
The lady Toppers will be back in action next Monday against Lane College at the BMCU Sportsplex at 3:00 pm.
