Toppers Split Opening Series with William Woods

Millington, Tenn.- BMCU drop two games on day two in Millington, Tennessee versus William Woods University.
William Woods jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after Jared Bendfeld homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Kaden Kinsler singled, scoring one run.
Ross Polizzi homered to right field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the Toppers.
Rey Castaneda pitched three solid innings in relief for BMCU. Castaneda gave up one hit and zero runs while, striking out two and walking two.
Max Benton began the game for the Owls. The righty gave up five hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.
Polizzi led BMCU with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The left-handed hitter went one for three on the day.
Yaidel Perez showed the depth of the Toppers line-up, by leading them with two hits in three at bats.
At the end of game three of the series, the Owls were able to gain their first win of the season with an eight to four victory.
In game four of the series, Jacob Bryant collected three hits in four at bats. He hit a solo shot to center field. The only run the Toppers will be able to amass in the game.
Both teams were strong on the bump.
William Woods pitchers struck out five, while BMCU sat down ten.
Max Bates threw six solid innings for the Diamond Toppers and struck out eight batters.
Cameron Gordon gave BMCU a great inning of work on the mound in the seventh as he sat down two hitters.
Vasquez would earn the win for the Owls in the final game of the series.
Prescott got the save behind three almost clean innings and five strikeouts.
It was an unusual day for the Toppers at the plate, but they will look to get back on track next Friday at 2:00 pm versus Lindsey Wilson College.
