Jackson, Miss.- Tougaloo, Miss. – The Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers put together a strong road performance on Saturday afternoon, pulling away for a 63–50 victory over Tougaloo College.
BMCU set the tone early, using defensive pressure and balanced scoring to build momentum in the opening quarter.
The Toppers jumped out to a 19–9 advantage after one, forcing turnovers and controlling the glass to establish early control.
Rebecca Walter was active in the paint from the start, while
Isabella Carlson helped pace the offense with steady ball movement.
Tougaloo responded in the second quarter, trimming the margin behind improved shooting and trips to the free-throw line.
The Bulldogs outscored BMCU 16–11 in the frame, but the Toppers maintained a 30–25 lead at the break by continuing to generate quality looks and limiting second-chance opportunities.
Coming out of halftime, BMCU reasserted itself defensively.
The Toppers held Tougaloo to just four points in the third quarter while extending the lead with timely perimeter shooting.
Dominique Collins knocked down multiple three-pointers, and
Maddie Kirk provided a spark on both ends of the floor as BMCU took a 48–29 advantage into the final period.
Tougaloo made a push in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 points, but the Toppers answered each run with composure.
Walter continued to anchor the defense, finishing with a game-high 17 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks, while Kirk added 14 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals.
Carlson chipped in eight points and a team-high seven assists as BMCU closed out the road win.
The Toppers will return home next, hosting Mobile on Thursday before Christmas break.
