Henderson, Tenn.- The Lady Toppers traveled to Henderson, Tennessee, for a non-conference matchup against the No. 6 Freed-Hardeman Lions, falling 69-51.
BMCU came out firing on all cylinders in the opening quarter, shooting 60 percent from three-point range and 40 percent from the field.
Solid defensive play along the perimeter helped the Lady Toppers take a 17-10 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Lions began to find their rhythm in the second frame, knocking down several contested shots from deep and hitting 50 percent from beyond the arc, including a last-second three to take a 32-29 lead into halftime.
In the second half, BMCU's offensive rhythm cooled while Freed-Hardeman continued its hot shooting, maintaining a 50 percent clip from three to extend its lead to seven entering the final quarter. The Lions sustained their momentum in the fourth to close out the game 69-51.
The Lady Toppers showed strong effort and poise against one of the top-ranked teams in the country.
Three players finished in double figures:
Isabella Carlson and
McKenzie Williams led with 11 points apiece, while
Rebecca Walter added 10 points and 8 rebounds.
BMCU returns to action Saturday afternoon against Welch College. The game will feature a special ring ceremony at halftime of the men's matchup to celebrate last season's SSAC Tournament Championship.
