Blue Mountain, Miss.- The Volley Toppers defended their home court Friday night in the SSAC Game of the Week, taking down a tough UT Southern squad 3–1 in a four-set battle.
It was a fight for every point, with both teams displaying grit, defense, and timely offense throughout the match.
For BMCU, the offensive charge was powered by three Toppers in double digits.
Salice Speed led the way with 13 kills on a .286 hitting percentage, while
Valeria Velez and
Rachel Stegall each tallied 10 kills of their own.
The Topper continued their trend of strong serving, totaling 10 aces on the night.
Reanna Brown, the reigning SSAC Setter of the Week, dished out 24 assists and added 7 digs, while fellow setter
Peyton Kidd contributed 18 assists and delivered 4 aces from the service line.
Defensively,
Kora Wilson anchored the back line with an incredible 33 digs, repeatedly keeping rallies alive and swinging momentum in BMCU's favor.
Abbi Williams added 12 digs to help hold down the backcourt.
The front line made its presence felt as well, combining for 11 blocks.
Caleigh Grace Turpin led the effort with 4 blocks, while
Marissa Gerleman and
Helen Roy each added 3.
With another strong performance, the Volley Toppers continue to find their rhythm late in the season. They'll now hit the road for a conference matchup at William Carey.
