BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian Men gave nationally ranked No. 9 Mobile all they could handle here defensively Thursday in the SSAC opener, but the Rams lone goal got them over the hump to take a 1-0 win over the Toppers.
In the first, the Topper defense forced the Rams out wide and would eventually roll down field to get off four shots against Mobile star keeper Ty Turner.
BMCU's
Ruben Santos got off a header but landed wide at 14:19, followed by shot from
Kida Yamaguchi that was also wide three minutes later.
The Toppers'
George Caudwell would get off two shots within a minute, with Turner saving the second for Mobile.
The lone goal of the match came at 28:58 when Joseph McMahon scored on an assist by Jeb Scarbrough around BMCU keeper
Gabriel Ormeneze.
At the 85:20 mark of the second, BMCU's
Daniel Gomez would fire a laser right of goal, but Turner was right there for another save. Turner would turn in another clean sheet, one of many in the career for the Ram keeper.
BMCU (0-3-3, 0-1 SSAC) have a big task ahead Saturday in Blue Mountain, as they host SSAC state foe and nationally ranked No. 16 William Carey at 3 p.m. CT.
