LEBANON, Tenn. - The first game day of the year for BMCU Volleyball came to an end this afternoon with the Volley Toppers winning both matches in easy fashion.
The first match of the season was against Missouri Valley College who put a decent fight, but BMCU was too strong, winning 3-1 (25-28, 25-11, 16-25, 25-19).
The Vikings didn't have an answer for BMCU's serving, as the team combined for thirteen aces alone. Three players had four aces individually for the Toppers;
Kora Wilson,
Kerianna Collins and
Peyton Kidd.
Kaytie Rutland,
Olivia Ashton and
Rae Ann Hall looked dominant on the attacking end against the Vikings, combining for thirty-three kills in the match.
On defense,
Caleigh Grace Turpin was locked in with seven blocks in the match, as well as Wilson and
Jaiyah Jackson pulling out thirty-nine digs between them.
In the second match, the Fisk Bulldogs found it difficult to compete with the reigning SSAC champs, as BMCU swept the match 25-19, 25-23, 25-14.
Wilson again found a rhythm serving with five aces in the match, while Kidd and Oliver combined for thirty assists in the match.
Jackson had seventeen digs on defense. Turpin led again with five blocks.
Hall and
Helen Roy were aggressive on offense with each slamming eight kills.
BMCU head coach
Reid Gann said, "I was impressed today with our experienced players and newcomers on the team. Everyone did their part in what was needed to lead our team to these two wins today."
The Volley Toppers (2-0) return Saturday at the Phoenix Classic, taking on Ave Maria at 5 p.m. and host Cumberland at 7 p.m. CT.
