BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian earned a non-conference sweep here Monday over cross-state rival Bethel University, completing the regular season home schedule.
The Toppers took Game 1 by a score of 7-1, as
Skylar Lee broke the BMCU single season stolen base record with her 27
thof the season.
Lee needed two bags to break the 2012 record set by Kimmy Nicholson, and she would swipe her first base of the day in the bottom of the third, with the record-setter coming in the bottom of the sixth, both steals of second base.
In the circle,
Jacy Weaver (7-10) was dominate for the Toppers, tossing a complete-game four-hitter with four Ks.
Shante Beaulieu would have an RBI single in the third, while
Evi Edwards had a sac-fly in the same inning for the Toppers.
Three more crossed the plate in the fourth for the Toppers, as Beaulieu knocked in another run with a single up the middle,
Jadyn Yarbro hit a sac-fly to center and
Haley McDaniel roped an RBI double down the left field line.
Lee completed her game with an RBI single through the left side to ensure the victory for the Toppers.
Lee finished with three hits, as did Beaulieu. McDaniel chipped in a pair of hits in the victory.
GAME 2
Game 2 saw lefty
Bri Langley twirl a gem in the circle for the Toppers, tossing a shutout for a 3-0 win to get the sweep of the Wildcats.
Langley (6-7) was masterful, as she induced 12 groundouts and six foul outs from the Bethel offense. She would allow on four hits with three Ks.
Tyra Billy would drive in Blue Mountain's first two runs, as she roped a two-run single to right.
That would be followed by a
Kennedy Turner groundout in the sixth that plated
Skylar Lee; enough to give the Toppers the victory.
Lee would have another stolen base for the Toppers, giving her 28 on the season to pile on to her record.
The victories push the Toppers close to a 20-win season in Coach
Matt Brunet's first season as skipper.
BMCU (17-27, 7-17 SSAC) returns to action tomorrow, as they travel to Memphis, Tenn. to take on NCAA DII LeMoyne-Owen in a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. CT.
