BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – No. 18 William Carey got a pair of victories here Saturday over Blue Mountain in the SSAC Series of the Week, including a 6-0 win in Game 1.
The Toppers couldn't get anything going offensively against Carey's Ryanne Hornsby, as the righty would toss a five-hit complete game with a couple Ks.
Carey carried a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning against BMCU's
Madison Montgomery and would plate three in the seventh to take the conference victory.
Jadyn Yarbro would have a double for the Toppers in the loss, while
Skylar Lee swiped a base.
The steal gives Lee 22 on the season, and closer to the BMCU record of 26.
Montgomery (4-8) would suffer the pitching loss, also tossing a complete game, giving up six runs on 11 hits.
GAME 2
In the second game, The Crusaders would have to rally in the later innings to take a 9-4 victory.
Down 2-0 heading to the third, Blue Mountain would go ahead 3-2 when
Evi Edwards,
Iris Farve and
Shante Beaulieu all singled in runs, chasing Carey starter Kate Schroeder.
The Crusaders tied it in the fourth but would score three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, capped by a two-run triple by Brooke Tanner.
Beaulieu would drive in another run in the fifth for Blue Mountain with a single to center, but the Topper rally would stall.
Ryanne Hornsby would come on in relief for Carey to earn her second victory in the circle on the day, while
Bri Langley suffered the loss for the Toppers, going 5 innings, giving up eight earned runs on 15 hits with three Ks.
