MONTGOMERY, Ala. – GAME 2 – Blue Mountain Christian and No. 11 Faulkner finished up the three-game SSAC series here Saturday in a pair of games, with the Eagles taking Game 2 11-4 to secure the series.
The Toppers would leave 10 stranded on base in the game, while the Eagles would score eight runs in the first three innings, highlighted by a two-run homer Orlando Lorduy off BMCU starter
Austin Garrison.
The Toppers would get an answer in the fourth when Arderrius "Peeko" Townsend blasted a two-run homer to left center off Faulkner's Mose Hayes, his 21
st of the season.
The Toppers would get one more in the sixth when
Braxton Miller scored on a wild pitch.
The Eagle bats would prove to be too much in the latter innings, as they would get an RBI single from Juan Trinidad and a solo homer from Francisco Soriano to take the game.
Townsend,
Tyrese Roberson,
Will Crawford and
Hayden Redding all had two hits in the loss for the Toppers.
Garrison (1-4) was saddled with the pitching loss, throwing 2.1 innings, giving up eight runs on six hits with a K and four walks.
GAME 3
Faulkner would sweep the series in the nightcap that took around five hours to play, eventually walking it off in the 10
thinning 14-13.
The Toppers struck first as
Hayden Redding would single on the infield to score
Tyrese Roberson.
Another would cross the plate for the Toppers in the third, as
Josiah Rivera drove a sac-fly to right to score
Gavin Coles.
Faulkner would finally answer in the fifth against BMCU starter
Matthew Koch, as they would plate two that included an RBI triple by Eduarny Martinez.
With the game tied in the top of the seventh, Blue Mountain's
Will Crawford would score on a wild pitch and Faulkner would give the Toppers two free passes and make an error to give BMCU an 8-3 lead.
The Toppers extended their lead in the eighth, as Peeko Townsend would belt his second homer of the day, and his 22
nd of the season to right, this time a two-run shot. Townsend is now tied for first in the nation with Columbia's (Mo.) Cayden Nicoletto.
Roberson would make it 11-3 Blue Mountain later in the inning with an RBI single to right.
BMCU's
Matthew Koch had a strong outing on the mound, pitching seven innings of five-hit ball with. Five runs were attributed to Koch, but he would also have seven Ks.
In the bottom of the eighth, Faulkner would see nine straight batters reach base against the Topper bullpen, scoring seven runs before
Jesse Hancock could stop the bleeding on the mound.
In the ninth,
Hayden Redding would hit a sac fly to give the Toppers a 12-10 lead, but Faulkner would tie it down to their last strike when Orlando Lorduy drilled a two-run double to left center, sending it to extra innings.
Gavin Coles would put the Toppers back up a run with two outs in the 10
th when he ripped an RBI triple down the rightfield line.
The Eagles would get the walk-off in the bottom of the 10
th when Eduany Martinez hit a two-run single to end it.
Despite the loss, BMCU's
Jesse Hancock was strong on the mound, throwing in both games to total over 100 pitches on the day.
Roberson finished with four hits and three RBI, while Townsend, Coles and
Chris Smith all had two hits each in the loss for BMCU.
BMCU (24-17, 9-15 SSAC) returns to action Tuesday at home against former SSAC foe Bethel (Tenn.) in a nine-inning affair at 3 p.m. CT.
