Toppers knock off Bethel in midweek matchup

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian returned here Tuesday in midweek action against former SSAC foe (RV) Bethel in a 9-inning affair.
The Toppers would knock off their Tennessee counterpart, winning 12-9 behind a four-hit, five RBI game from Austin Garrison.
The Toppers exploded for eight runs in the second inning, with Garrison, Chris Smith, and Chris Hoing all singling in a run each, while Garrison would later double in a run.  Ty Roberson would also have a sac-fly in the inning.
BMCU starter Caleb Bass would hold the Wildcats in check until the third and fourth innings when they scored two runs in each inning, capped by a couple Topper errors and an RBI triple from Jared Hall.
In the fourth, the NAIA's leading stolen base getter, Hayden Redding, drilled a solo homer to left to make it 9-5 Toppers.
Garrison struck again in the fourth, as he drilled a two-run homer to left and then an RBI single in the sixth giving Blue Mountain a 12-5 lead.
Bass (1-0) would get the win on the mound, tossing six innings, allowing three earned runs on just three hits with three Ks.  Weston Fuller (1) got credit for the save for the Toppers
BMCU (25-17, 9-15 SSAC) returns to action Friday and Saturday in a big three-game SSAC series against state rival William Carey.
