No. 20 MGA grabs two from Toppers

COCHRAN, Ga. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian travelled to No. 20 Middle Georgia State for a dual SSAC showdown here Saturday.
The Toppers would drop Game 1 in a five-inning mercy rule to the Knights, 8-0.
The Topper offense just couldn't get anything going against MGA pitcher Emily Proctor, as she would toss a two-hit shutout, notching three Ks.
Kennedy Turner and Sam Whitwell had the Toppers' two hits, a pair of singles.
The Knights would get a three-run fourth inning where Morgan Windham would drive in a trio with a double to left-center.
The Knights finished it off in the fifth on a Topper error, giving them the conference win.
BMCU's Jacy Weaver (5-8) suffered the pitching loss, tossing two innings, giving up two runs on just three hits with a K.
Bri Langley pitched 2.1 innings of relief for Blue Mountain, giving up five earned runs on six hits.
 
GAME 2
In Game 2, Middle Georgia State would have to rally late against the Toppers to take a 6-4 victory.
The Toppers struck first in the backend game, as Julianna Ingram would drive in Jacy White and Tyra Billy with a two-run single to first to give BMCU a 2-0 lead.
The Knights answered in the second against Topper starter Madison Montgomery, getting a pair of RBI doubles to tie it.
BMCU slugger Evi Edwards would belt a solo homer in the top of the third against MGA hurler Madison Riggins, her fourth of the season to give the Toppers a 3-2 lead.
The Knights tied it in the fifth and would take the lead in the sixth, as they would score three runs highlighted by a two-run single by Christina Zeppa.
In the seventh, Blue Mountain would get an RBI single by Iris Farve to cut the MGA lead to three, but that would be all the Toppers could get.
Edwards would lead the Toppers with three hits, while Billy scored twice.  Montgomery (4-6) suffered the loss, tossing a complete game, giving up six runs on eight hits with a K.
BMCU (13-17, 5-11 SSAC) returns to action Tuesday against Freed-Hardeman in Henderson, Tenn. in non-conference play at 3 and 5 p.m. CT.
