MT. VERNON, Ga. – GAME 1 – The Lady Toppers of Blue Mountain got a big SSAC victory in Game 1 Thursday over Brewton-Parker, winning a 3-0 shutout.
BMCU hurler
Jacy Weaver was too much for the Baron offense, as she tossed a five-hit, complete game with three Ks.
Weaver has been money in the circle for the Toppers, as her offense supplied her with three runs to cap the win.
The Topper damage would all come in the top of the third when
Iris Farve drove in
Skylar Lee with an infield single, and
Julianna Ingram followed it up with a two-run single through the middle of the infield to score
Mallory Jo Mitchell and Farve.
That would be all Weaver would need, as she would let her defense do the work behind her, giving her a fifth win in the circle this season.
Lee would add to her stolen base collection, swiping two against the Baron defense.
GAME 2
Brewton-Parker would rebound in the second game, winning 4-1 to split the conference twin bill.
Despite the loss, the Toppers would get a solid outing in the circle from
Madison Montgomery, who tossed a complete game, giving up three earned runs on just four hits with three Ks.
The Barons would get two in the bottom of the first when they would get a pair of sac-flies to take the lead.
The Toppers would finally get on the board in the top of the sixth when
Skylar Lee would touch the plate on an error by the Baron defense to make it 2-1.
BPC would get two more in the bottom of the sixth RBI singles from Hailey Gabrich and Taylor Elliott for insurance.
Kennedy Turner led the Toppers with two hits, while Lee swiped another base in the loss.
BMCU (13-15, 5-9 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Friday, as they travel to Middle Ga. St. for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. CT.
