BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian Softball picked up its third SSAC victory of the season here Sunday in Game 1, as Topper ace
Jacy Weaver shoved a five-hit, complete game against the Skyhawks to get a 2-1 win.
Weaver (4-7) was on point in the circle, as she would fan six Point batters in the dominant outing.
The Toppers would get the first run in the bottom of the third, as
Evi Edwards drilled a single to left to score Hayley McDaniel.
Blue Mountain would plate the insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a rope single to center by
Mallory Jo Mitchell to score
Maryn Macri to give BMCU a 2-0 lead.
The Skyhawks would get a run in the top of the seventh, but Weaver would notch one of her six Ks to end the game, striking out Kayden Helton for the final out.
Skylar Lee would add to her stolen base total, swiping two bases for the Toppers in the victory.
GAME 2
Blue Mountain would finish off the sweep of Point in the evening matchup, winning 8-1 behind another strong pitching performance, this time from
Madison Montgomery.
Montgomery (4-4) grabbed the win with a complete-game two hitter with four Ks.
The Toppers broke the ice in the very first inning, as
Evi Edwards supplied an RBI single to center to score
Skylar Lee.
Point answered with a run of their own on an RBI double by Brooke Burkett to tie it in the top of the second to tie it.
Blue Mountain would retake the lead in the bottom of the second when
Tyra Billy came around to score, and in the bottom of the third, Edwards blasted a two-run homer to left, her third of the season.
Another run crossed in the third when Jacy White scored to give the Toppers a 5-1 lead.
In the sixth, pinch-hitter
Kennedy Turner unloaded on a pitch for a two-run homer that hit off the scoreboard to give the Toppers an 8-1 lead.
Edwards led with two hits and three RBI, while Lee had two hits and two runs scored and three stolen bases to give her five in the two-game set.
BMCU (12-14, 4-8 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Thursday against Brewton-Parker in Mount Vernon, Ga. in a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. CT.
